XY/ORAS Rare Candy Farming Guide
Overview
To RNG Manipulate in XY & ORAS, we revive Aerodactyl fossils & calculate their EXACT IVs.
To make this process efficient, it's recommended you get a LOT of rare candy, a very rare consumable item.
These are required to quickly level up the Aerodactyl you revive to for multi-level IV Calculators. And we use the IVs to determine what seed we're on!
Unfortunately, getting a ton of rare candies is not very easy. We also don't have an exact amount of candies we need. Every Pokemon is different, which means it might take a different amount of rare candies each time to get the IVs of a given Aerodactyl. In addition, every RNG Manip will permanently consume about 3 to 5 rare candies, so we'll have to replenish our stash occasionally.
Conservatively, I aim for 50 rare candies if I'm fully out. But you can get more if you want.

The Guide
Hidden Items
There's two main techniques we can use. However, before you use either
of them, make sure to pickup every rare candy that is lying on the
ground in the game.
These videos by Tarx 96 showcase where they are
The two methods are:
-
Pokemon Bank
-
Pickup Farming
Each method has its pros and cons. I'll begin with Pokemon bank.
Pokemon Bank
Pokemon Bank passively generates Poké Miles each day, based on how many Pokemon you have stored in it, at a rate of 1 Poké Mile per 30 Pokemon per day, with the fractional remainder carried over to the next day!
Poké Miles are (mostly) useless nowadays, but you can also choose to receive your Poké Miles as Battle Points (BP) instead, at a rate of 1 BP for every 10 Poké Miles you have. Every single BP you have MUST be sent to ONE game, and you can use them to buy rare candies at the Battle Maison in that game.

Rare candies are 48 BP Each, which is a lot, but bank can really rack up a TON of BP overtime, if you wait.

The pros:
-
If you have a very full bank, you'll likely be generating multiple rare candies per day. I personally am getting at least one.
-
You don't have to do anything other than wait. It's passive income!
The Cons:
-
Bank is unavailable for download, so if you don't have it installed on your 3DS already, you can't get it.
-
It's slow if you don't have a lot of Pokemon. So if you transferred most of your collection to home, this might not benefit you.
-
Even if you have a lot of Pokemon, this is not an active method. Meaning, the only way to farm more is to wait days.
-
You can only send your entire accumulated amount to one game. So if you only want to manip one target, it might be overkill!
-
It's only available in the post-game, as you need access to the Battle Maison to spend your BP!
-
Bank WILL shutdown someday, so this method will not always work.
Despite the seemingly overwhelming amount of cons, this is my preferred method. I only do gen 6 RNG Manips occasionally, so by the time I'm ready for a new manip, I have a ton of BP ready to send to whichever game I need!
That said, if this technique is not for you, maybe pickup farming is!
Pickup Farming
Pickup farming is pretty simple. Get 5 to 6 Pokemon with the ability
pickup to level 41 or higher, then repeatedly win wild battles to try
and get the ability to happen.
Pickup has a 10% chance to give you an item from this table. The percent
each item has is how likely you are to get that item if pickup triggers.

Table from bulbapedia
This is the pickup table from ORAS, but what we care about remains the
same between them and XY: Rare candies.
From level 41 onwards, you have a 10% chance to get a rare candy, if
pickup triggers.
XY & ORAS have slightly different methods for pickup farming preparation, so click the tab for the game you're playing.
First, we have to get our Pokemon with the ability pickup. Bunnelby can be found on Route 1 & is extremely common, & its evolution retains the ability, so I recommend it.
Once you pick your Pokemon, catch 6 of them.
You now have to level the Pokemon to 41.
For quick leveling, you can do rotation battles in Restaurant Le Wow in Lumiose City. There's an audino in that group, and you'll easily get them to level 40 in one battle if you have the EXP Share on and the EXP O Power.
You'll also need to bring at least one strong Pokemon to carry the rotation battles. This means we can only level 5 Bunnelby at a time.
I can never remember how to navigate this place, so I always use the Taxi to get there. It's under "Fine Dining" in the taxi menu.

And here's which battle to select

First, we have to get our Pokemon with the ability pickup. Zigzagoon, can be found on Route 101 & is extremely common, & its evolution retains the ability, so I recommend it.
Once you pick your Pokemon, catch 6 of them.
You now have to level the Pokemon to 41.
To do this, we have to set up some Blissey Bases via these QR Codes:

The first image explains how they work and where they are. This will also get you zigzagoons to be above 40 in 1 battle.
Once you have 6 Pickup Pokemon at level 41 or higher, you can proceed to
- Get into a battle
- KO a Wild Pokemon
- Check your pickup items
- Repeat until you have 40+ rare candies!
I recommend doing this on Route 1 or 101 depending on your game.
The Pros:
- Easy & Mindless. You can just do this while watching TV or movies.
- Not tied to an online service
- Technically not post-game
The Cons:
- Very slow
- Active, you HAVE to be on your DS doing this.
On paper, this looks a lot better than bank, but I really do not enjoy the tedium it introduces into the mix. However, if you're used to shiny hunting, maybe this will be easier for you to stomach.
And those are all the techniques I know of to farm for rare candies! Choose whichever method suits you, and hopefully it won't be long before you're ready to RNG Manip in gen 6!
Next Steps...
If you're prepping for ORAS RNG Manipulation, there's a good chance you'll need some Fossils, which is the previous guide in extra credit! So check that out if you need them.
Otherwise, hopefully you're ready to manip. If so, I'll see you at whichever guide you're planning on reading!
